Facial massage or an expensive cream: what each does
Updated:
In short
A cream's price says nothing about how well it suits your skin. Dermatologists point to simple habits: daily sun protection and moisturizer. Facial massage is a different thing: it relaxes the muscles of the face, and in our experience skin looks fresher and more rested for a while. It is not a lift and does not remove wrinkles. The two complement each other rather than compete.
Myth: the pricier the cream, the younger the skin
Reality: price says little about whether a cream suits your skin. The American Academy of Dermatology focuses on habits rather than price: gentle cleansing without scrubbing, a facial moisturizer every day (which, in their words, “traps water in our skin”) and sun protection every day. For sunscreen, the AAD advice is an SPF of 30 or higher. It also notes that tanning and smoking speed up skin aging. We name no brands: what matters is choosing something that does not irritate your skin and using it consistently.
Myth: facial massage lifts like a facelift and erases wrinkles
Reality: it does not. Facial massage relaxes the muscles of the face, forehead and jaw, where many people store tension through the day. In our experience, skin looks fresher and more rested after a session, for a while. That is all. It does not change the shape of the face and it replaces nothing in your home routine. Results vary from person to person and we cannot guarantee a specific result.
Myth: you need one or the other
Reality: they do different jobs. Cream and sun protection are daily habits that no session replaces. Massage is a pause every few weeks, or whenever you feel you need one. The facial massage at BodyBar Studio takes 30 minutes and involves no deep cleansing. If you want something fuller, the Luxury Face Ritual adds a mask. Talk to your doctor before booking.
Myth: skin care is about products, not habits
Reality: a large part is habit: gentle cleansing, sun protection, not smoking. And facial muscles tense up just like neck muscles do: at a screen, in traffic, over long days. That is why we describe skin care as two parts: what you do at home every day, and the moments when you let yourself stop.
