What anti-cellulite massage is
Anti-cellulite massage is a manual treatment using firm, rhythmic kneading, pressing and smoothing movements on the areas where cellulite appears most often: thighs, buttocks, hips and, on request, the abdomen. Oil is used, and the pressure is stronger than in a relaxation massage. The aim is to improve the look and texture of the skin, not to treat an illness: cellulite is a cosmetic skin feature, not a medical condition.
At BodyBar Studio in Botanica, a session lasts 50 min and costs 600 lei.
Who it is for
- anyone who wants to care for the look of the skin on the thighs, hips and buttocks as part of a regular routine;
- anyone who prefers a manual treatment without a machine and wants to be able to adjust the pressure on the spot;
- people who spend long hours sitting or standing and feel “heavy” legs at the end of the day;
- as a complement to an active lifestyle: movement, hydration and nutrition remain the foundation, and massage adds to them.
What to expect from the treatment
The massage temporarily increases blood flow in the skin of the treated area, so afterwards the skin usually feels warmer, smoother and softer to the touch, and many clients describe relaxed, lighter legs. Be realistic about cellulite: according to Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic, massage can at most make it look slightly better for a short time. It does not remove cellulite, and any improvement fades if the sessions stop. Results vary from person to person and we cannot guarantee a specific result.
Contraindications
Talk to your doctor before booking, and tell your therapist, if any of the following applies to you. In several of these cases anti-cellulite massage is not done at all:
- pregnancy;
- fever, infectious diseases or acute inflammation;
- skin conditions, wounds, burns, eczema, irritation or infection in the area to be massaged;
- thrombosis, thrombophlebitis or pronounced varicose veins in the legs;
- cancer, current or recent;
- severe cardiovascular conditions or uncontrolled high blood pressure;
- a bleeding disorder or blood-thinning medication;
- bruises or recent surgery in the area;
- known allergy to oils or massage products.
Duration, number of sessions and price
A session lasts 50 min and costs 600 lei. Salons typically suggest a course of 8–10 sessions, once or twice a week; this is a common industry figure, not a fixed rule. The exact plan is agreed with your therapist at the first visit. Because any effect is temporary, it only lasts with occasional maintenance sessions.
How the session goes
The session starts with a short conversation about your health, the areas you want worked on and the pressure that feels comfortable. You then lie down on the massage table; only the area being worked on is uncovered and the rest of your body stays covered. Your therapist applies the oil and works on each area in turn. You can say at any time if the pressure is too strong or too light.
After the session
Drink water during the day and avoid very hot baths, saunas or intense exercise on the day of your session. On sensitive skin you may notice slight redness or tenderness to the touch, which usually passes quickly. If you notice bruising, lasting pain or any unusual reaction, let us know and, if needed, speak to your doctor.
